We have been working on site words. At the end of January, 15 students (75% of our class) have learned 85% or more of the site words,  13 have achieved 100%. Woo Hoo!!

As a reminder, students need to continue working on spelling words and site words.
Green homework folders should be going home and coming back to school everyday. Please take the time to look through your childs folders.

Dr. Williams was very gracious in accepting an invitation to read a story about the Underground Railroad to the first grade students at Burke on Tuesday, January 19th, 2010. Mrs. Kramer’s, Mrs. Walburn's and my classes were captivated by Dr. William’s storytelling of The Patchwork Path by Bettye Stroud.   The historical fiction narrative accounts a family of slaves during the time of the Underground Railroad Era.  The father and daughter, the only remaining family members, make the courageous decision to jeopardize everything and achieve freedom.  The Patchwork Path personified the teaching of Dr. Martin Luther, Jr.: courage, perseverance, faith, love, justice and family. The children were engaged all through the adventure that unfolded as Dr. Williams turned the page.
